Wigan head coach Ryan Lowe was not satisfied with just a point despite his side rallying late on to earn a 2-2 draw at Rotherham.
The visitors had looked like leaving South Yorkshire empty handed when Martin Sherif netted 10 minutes from time, but a late header from Paul Mullin bagged them a share of the spoils.
Wigan had a 1-0 lead at the break but goals from Shaun McWilliams and Sherif left them having to put on a late rally.
Lowe said: “I am disappointed it’s not all three points. I thought we were on top for large parts of the game.
“We were excellent first half and the players did everything we asked them to. Second half, I thought we were second best for large parts.
“Their changes made them more aggressive and direct and they got after us a little bit more.
“We struggled with it a little bit but that’s on us.
“I am happy to take a point because we were getting nothing.
“The lads gave it everything but there were certain elements we have got to be better at.”
Jordan Hugill came close twice in the first half for Rotherham but saw a header tipped away by Sam Tickle and then his strike bounced over the crossbar.
Wigan snuck in front after 42 minutes with an incisive move.
Fraser Murray slipped in Ryan Trevitt and his effort crept beyond Cameron Dawson via a deflection off Sean Raggett.
Rotherham responded on the hour mark through half-time substitute McWilliams who lashed in from the edge of the box after Kion Etete’s effort had been blocked.
The home side then stepped up their quest for victory.
Tickle had to be alert to deny Etete who had been set clear from Sherif’s through-ball.
The goalkeeper could do nothing when Sherif squeezed the ball beyond him from Reece James’s cross.
But Wigan struck back with Wrexham loanee Mullin nodding in from Murray’s corner.
They then pushed for a stoppage-time winner with Mullin denied one-on-one by Dawson.
Morgan Fox looked to secure the points himself but his curling effort landed on the roof of the net.
Etete also fired over the top with a last-ditch effort.
Millers manager Matt Hamshaw said: “It wasn’t a vintage Rotherham United performance first half.
“In the second half we played more like I am looking to do. I have said all along it’s going to take time for things to start to gel.
“The front two were a right handful second half. There are a lot of pleasing aspects but there is a lot to work on.
“We are in a process and there are going to be peaks and troughs. We will get there.”
