York moved top of the National League after beating Solihull (Tim Goode/PA)

York returned to the National League summit following a 2-0 win at Solihull.

Goals from Alex Hunt and Alex Newby helped the Minstermen extend their unbeaten league run to 18 games, moving one point clear of Rochdale who have three matches in hand.

Ollie Pearce, the division’s leading goalscorer, cleared a Solihull effort off the line either side of home goalkeeper Laurie Walker saving from Joe Grey and Ben Brookes.

But York took the lead on the hour when Hunt converted from the penalty spot before Newby secured a third successive win with a second 11 minutes from time.
