York bounced back to winning ways in stunning style as they put Carlisle to the sword in a 5-0 victory at the LNER Community Stadium.

Having seen their unbeaten start to the National League season ended by a stoppage-time home defeat to Solihull on Saturday, York scored three first-half goals as the Cumbrians’ four-match winning streak came to an end.

The home side raced out of the traps and took the lead after four minutes when Malachi Fagan-Walcott pounced at the back post before Mark Kitching headed a free-kick against a post.

Ollie Pearce doubled York’s lead from the penalty spot in the 39th minute, having been brought down by goalkeeper Gabriel Breeze, and nodded in his second a minute before the break.

Alex Newby and substitute Josh Stones added further goals in the second half.
